ODH Releases County Bed Need Results

Yesterday, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) released the results of the first mandated county bed need determination. The study was required by Amended Substitute House Bill 1, which allowed Certificate of Need applications to be filed for the inter-county movement of beds between counties in need of beds and counties with excess beds. Applications to move beds between counties under this section of the Ohio Revised Code can be filed beginning July 1, 2010. The results of the study are available in PDF format on the ODH website.

We expect significant Certificate of Need application activity to occur over the next few months. Also, due to the limited movement of beds to certain counties, we expect to see an increase in objections to filed applications. Therefore, it is more important than ever to obtain legal and accounting advice prior to considering adding beds or building a new facility.
